book 5- the hottest state, by ethan hawke. a "gem" kidnapped from bookcrossing site in ou. a "gem" because, i didn't know ethan hawke wrote a book??? apparently he even directed a movie of it. huh. this was just... mediocre. it wasn't badly written, i had no fault with the style. it's just... it's nothing new. boy meets girl, fell head over heels, girl is not your usual conventional beauty, boy and girl goes to paris, boy and girl quotes shakespeare (romeo and juliet) a lot, girl suddenly goes cold, boy went mad, stalker-ish, bloodifies self, goes home, then suddenly has an epiphany after meeting kids and girl and lives life well after that. assumingly. supposedly their love story was so intense, it should burn off the pages. it didn't. it's just rehashed. and written by a hot actor in 1996, right smack in his period of famous-ness. i think if i read it in '96/97 i'd be all over it. maybe as a movie it translated better? also, the hottest state as the title. hottest because young people in love will always feel like this?

a new rule for fifty books: if there is a book i've started but loathe to finish, i could make it count by reaching half of the pages. because it'd be a waste of time starting something and not finishing, and not being able to count it because it could have. because i'm reading something right now that is such a DROLL and i'd bet no one could read it without wanting to barf every 5 minutes. seriously.
