Turn around Bright Eyes

every now and then i fall apart

may 25 - bewilderment

book 13 - neverwhere by neil gaiman. i looooooooooove this. with anansi boys i was a little bored in the beginning, but not with this one. this one was a winner from the get go, without even me knowing at first. when anaesthesia perished i felt so sad. i enjoyed it very much, although the reveal of who was truly the main villain was little down-played, i think. also i think gaiman's murderers tend to be of the same breed: oily, slick, twisted. the two misters in this had the same touch as the jacks in the graveyard boy. a good tale.

book 14 was confessions of ugly stepsister by Gregory Maguire. a re-telling of cinderella, another point of view. not as tragic and sad as elphaba's tale, but very, very interesting, and quite real. finished this in 2 nights. i like that cinderella actually liked being in the kitchen, being covered in soot and ash. there was nothing magical in this story. i think that is it's biggest appeal.

sometimes i wonder if compliments like "the cats are so cute/smart" by other people are sincere, or they're just saying it to mask their bewilderment at how cat-crazy this family can be. i do not know. i still remember how one person always asked, "so is your cat still alive?" although i think that it was quite rude, at least he/she was honest.
