you don't owe prettiness to anyone. not your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street.
you don't owe it to your mother,
you don't owe it to your children,
you don't owe it to civilization in general.
prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked "female".

you should stop saying pretty as a compliment to other people too. while it's a nice thing to say, of course, it contributes to the generalisation that a girl needs to be pretty to be seen, to be validated, to be heard, to be ... human.
